The week of August 3 to 9, 2026 brings a powerful convergence of cosmic energies as Chiron stations retrograde in Taurus for the first time since 1984, inviting humanity to confront deep wounds around resources, the environment, and our relationship with the natural world. We are also navigating Eclipse Season, with a Total Solar Eclipse in Leo just ten days away, amplifying the sense that events are unfolding with karmic speed and consequence. Adding further intensity, Mars goes out of bounds this week, acting as a wild card that can inspire courageous action — or unleash impulsive, aggressive behaviors. Astrologer Pam Younghans guides us through these extraordinary celestial currents in her weekly forecast.

CHIRON AT A STANDSTILL: The physical world that we rely upon may be feeling quite unstable now, with Chiron at a standstill in preparation for going retrograde on Monday. This is the Wounded Healer's first station in earthy Taurus since 1984; the news headlines at this time reveal many of the issues humanity will be addressing and needing to heal over the next seven years. Among these are a greedy plundering of Earth's resources, valuing money over people, a disrespect of nature, a disregard for the long-term health of the environment, and a disconnect from our own bodies and health.

Issues of finances and supplies arose the last time Chiron was in Taurus, from 1976 to 1984. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, inflation rates in the U.S. reached nearly 15%. The Iranian revolution tripled the cost of oil. High interest rates led to the Farm Financial Crisis, with up to 300,000 farms in the U.S. defaulting on their loans.

Health and environmental issues were also in the spotlight during the most recent Chiron-in-Taurus years. The late 1970s brought awareness to the effects of the toxic herbicide Agent Orange on Vietnam veterans. In 1978, residents in the Love Canal neighborhood of Niagara Falls, New York, discovered that their high rates of illness, miscarriages, and birth defects were due to the chemical wastes that had been buried in the area 30 years earlier. And in 1979, the worst nuclear accident in U.S. history occurred when the reactor at Three Mile Island, Pennsylvania had a partial core meltdown.

THE OPPORTUNITY: With all of these crises, Chiron's task was to reveal the wound so that solutions might be found and unhealthy practices changed. The farm closures of the early 1980s eventually led to grassroots efforts such as the Farm Aid concert, which raised over $9 million to support family farmers. The government also acted, restructuring farm credit to save vulnerable farms, creating new agricultural policies to curb overproduction and soil erosion, and enacting legislation to make U.S. exports more competitive in the global market.

In response to veteran's health concerns, a class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of those who were affected by Agent Orange, with the plaintiffs ultimately being awarded $180 million. Following the Love Canal disclosures, major hazardous waste regulations were established and many environmental protections were prioritized. And the meltdown at Three Mile Island gave rise to the populist anti-nuclear movement.

It seems reasonable to expect that while it journeys through Taurus over the next seven years, Chiron will provide ample evidence of the environmental destruction caused by war, of the reality of climate change, and of the need for humanity to become better stewards of the natural world. We will also see more clearly how greed and hoarding by the few affects the physical health and well-being of the many. The exposure of these wounds will become the incentive for major societal and governmental changes to be implemented.

ECLIPSE SEASON: With a Total Solar Eclipse just 10 days away (on August 12), we are now navigating the often intense energies of Eclipse Season. Events that occur during these weeks can feel karmic or fated in some way, and situations can unfold rapidly.

Eclipse Season is a time of completions, clearings, and course corrections. Changes at this time are likely to have far-reaching impact. More on the Total Eclipse in Leo in next week's Journal.

RENEGADE MARS: Adding to the excitement of these times, Mars will be going “out of bounds” this week. All the planets in our solar system generally follow the plane of the ecliptic, the path that the Sun seems to travel as viewed from Earth. A planet is “in bounds” as long as it is within about 23° of that plane; when a planet goes beyond those limits, it is said to be “out of bounds” (OOB).

When a planet is OOB, it tends to act in unpredictable, unconventional, even shocking ways. It becomes a wild card in the planetary deck, without boundaries or limits.

With Mars OOB from August 3 to 28, all of its qualities, both high- and low-vibrational, are exaggerated. This means we can expect people to act with greater independence, courage, confidence, and assertiveness than usual. At the same time, we are likely to see many examples of Mars' shadow: egoic self-importance, impulsive or rash actions, aggression, and bullying behaviors.

DAILY ASPECTS THIS WEEK (August 3 to 9, 2026):

Monday

Venus square Ceres: Conflicts of values between family members may occur under this influence. Care must be taken not to demean the intelligence of another due to a difference of opinion.

Chiron stations retrograde: The Wounded Healer will be retrograde from August 3, 2026 to January 6, 2027. It will return to Aries on September 17 to finish its business in that sign, and will finally re-enter Taurus on April 14, 2027.

Tuesday

Mars sextile Eris: People may be especially assertive or act independently today, inspired by the courage of their convictions.

Wednesday

No major aspects are exact today.

Thursday

Venus enters Libra: Venus will journey through the sign of the Scales from August 6 to September 10. During these weeks, we value harmony in our relationships and may be more willing to negotiate and compromise. However, we must guard against codependent behaviors that value superficial peace over true connection. Venus will return to Libra from October 25 to December 4, due to going retrograde in early Scorpio on October 8.

Mercury square Eris: People may be irritable today, or tactless or impulsive in speech.

Sun trine Saturn: This aspect offers a sense of stability in these times of great change. It helps us to see a situation more realistically and to focus on the work that needs to be done.

Friday–Saturday

Venus quincunx Chiron, Venus trine Juno, Chiron square Juno, Venus trine Sedna: Partnerships and alliances are in the spotlight at this time. Old wounds may arise to be addressed and healed.

Sunday

Mercury enters Leo: Mercury is moving very quickly now and will be in the sign of the Lion for just over two weeks, from August 9 to 25. It is easier to express ourselves with enthusiasm and confidence during this time, and some may be drawn to creative writing projects. However, Mercury in Leo can also be overly dramatic, being predisposed to grand statements and gestures.

Mars conjunct Ceres: The desire to protect those we care about is strong with this aspect. Some may courageously speak to defend or support others.

Mercury opposite Juno, Mercury square Chiron: A need for attention and approval or applause can inhibit the ability to speak one's truth.

If Your Birthday Is This Week (August 3 to 9, 2026):

Your natural desire to lead, to express your creativity, or to be in the spotlight is enhanced this year, making it a good time to present or perform. Not all will appreciate your offerings, and you may find your confidence challenged by criticism or hecklers. Still, you have the discipline to persist and to succeed, augmenting both your enjoyment of life and your self-respect. (Solar Return Sun semisquare Venus, conjunct Jupiter, trine Saturn)
